Blu-ray & DVD: The Digital Dread Report for 8/15

In a world where streaming movies in HD is growing in popularity, it gets harder and harder to justify spending hard earned money on physical media. The fact is though that when done right, nothing makes a movie look or sound better on Blu-ray, so we bring you The Digital Dread Report to help you figure out what's worth buying, and what you're better off streaming.

It may be a smaller week on the Blu-ray front, varuiety wise, but it's a quality one.

  • As underwhelmed as most people were with Alien: Covenant, we found it to be a pretty good Alien flick. Not quite as good as Prometheus (whatever that means to you), but a good one.
  • The Alien: 6 Film Collection is a Must Own for anyone who doesn't already own the flicks on Blu-ray
  • One Dark Night is an underrated 80's classic that is finally seeing a Blu-ray release this week, and while it plays more like a TV movie of the week than it does most other Horror flicks of its time, it's a good one that deserves to be seen.
  • Being big fans of S.Korean Thrillers, we're curious to see what Bluebeard has to offer. It's said to be lighter on the blood and violence than most other S.Korean flicks of its kind, but the trailer looks twisted enough to make us not care.
  • Riverdale was a really enjoyable guilty pleasure for us earlier this year, and if you're looking for a fun show to pass some time with, you could do way worse that giving it a go.
  • For $7, the bare-bones release of Pet Sematary is a no brainer. Great flick.
  • And The Scarehouse is a flick that we saw a few years back, and all I remember about it is the over-acting of the "bad guys" at the end. That can't be a good sign.
  • Everything else, which is Orion, is a crap-shoot.

Be sure to click the pics below to buy the movies, or even rent them. Or both. Or neither. It really depends on your mood, now doesn't it?
